Hi friends,
When I woke up paralyzed, I couldn’t take care of myself, and my nurses did everything for me. They fed me, bathed me, lifted me, changed my bandages, helped me go to the bathroom, and dressed me. It felt like it wasn’t just their job — they seemed genuinely happy to do it.
Those early days were hard but what I remember most is how my nurses showed up and listen to me. They took care of me when I could not take care of myself.
Main Value Piece
What you teach patients…….
You teach us that we’re not alone.
Your presence becomes an anchor in moments when we feel like we might fall apart.
You teach us dignity.
How you look at us, how you talk to us, and how you include us in decisions changes how we see ourselves during the hardest moments of our lives.
Most patients don’t remember the treatment plans or the protocols — but we remember you.
Takeaway / Challenge
Choose one patient this week and give them 30 extra seconds of listening.
It might be the part of their day they talk about years from now.
